The Med-O-Med Platform of Cultural Landscapes in the Mediterranean and the Middle East, composed of 23 countries, aims at making up for the shortage of funds available for conserving biodiversity and natural and cultural heritage in the South and East of the Mediterranean basin and the Middle East.
Med-O-Med aspires to making the development of Islamic countries in these regions compatible with the preservation of their environment and heritage. It aims to set up projects involving maximum participation by regional social and public agents, with total respect for genetic sovereignty and the cultural identity of the local populations, all within an inter-cultural and a multi-disciplinary approach.
GUIDELINES FOR PROJECT SUBMISSIONSIn this section we describe the close relationship that has always existed, throughout history, between Islam and the natural environment. From its beginnings, the Islamic civilization privileged the contemplation, the conservation, the responsible management and the enhancement of the nature, in all its manifestations.
