A billion trees for Pakistan

In 2015, Pakistan launched an ambitious project, directed by Imran Khan, with the purpose of reforesting the Northeastern region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwauna. Its goal was to plant more than one billion trees, under the slogan of “A billion trees tsunami”, also called “The green gold”. This will allow to stop soil erosion, mitigate flood damages and counteract the negative effects of climate change. The project has involved 16,000 workers and has contributed to the creation of 500,000 jobs.

Since then, more than 900,000 fast growing eucalyptus have been planted, as well as more than 42 other tree species. This reforestation initiative has almost come to an end, surpassing the billion saplings. An excellent initiative that should be carried out in other countries in order to fight desertification. In the images underneath we can see the results of such important initiative.
