On the 28th, 29th and 30th of April 2010 FUNCI attended a seminar organized by ECEM (Civil Euro Mediterranean Meeting) in Javea, Alicante. FUNCI is a member of this organization.
The main goal of this seminar, “Reimagining the Mediterranean”, was to reach a consensus on the guidelines for the Spanish participation in the Euro-Mediterranean Civil Forum, subsequently held in the city of Alicante on the 14th, 15th and 16th of May of 2010, under the patronage of the Spanish Presidency of the European Union.
This seminar brought together about 50 people working for Spanish NGOs which operate in the Mediterranean area. These organizations came from different areas and were specializing in topics such as cooperation and development, gender issues, human and social rights, the environment and access to energy resources.
The Foundation through its the Med-O-Med program participated in a discussion that focused on Water Access and Energetic Resources, the conclusion of which remarked on the past failures of international meetings related to hydric resources due to the complicated political situation in the region.
Over two days, participants debated proposals and strategies in response to the challenges that affect the Euro-Mediterranean region regarding this issue.
The seminar Euromed Civil Meeting was funded by the Spanish Agency for
International Development and Cooperation (AECI), in collaboration with Casa Mediterránea.
