The garden of Al Andalus created by Med-O-Med for the Jardin d’Essais Botaniques of Rabat (JEB) keeps growing. Despite the difficulty at finding in Morocco some of the botanical species previewed in the original project, vegetation keeps evolving thanks to last winter’s abundant rainfalls and the horticultural knowledge of INRA (Institut National des Recherches Agronomiques), accountable for its maintenance.
The metal structure that encloses the garden through walls and arcades, creating an architectural space, is being covered by jasmines, ivies, damascene roses and lemon trees on trellis. Stricta cypresses are creating a vegetable enclosure and the flowering of ancient and local roses is at its peak.
Neo-moorish pavilion
Its neo-moorish Pavilion, restored by Med-O-Med experts, is not open to the public yet (neither is the JEB). Nevertheless, its construction has already been finished, while the Pavilion is expecting to host some didactic exhibitions.
The Project for the creation of a garden of Al Andalus and the restoration of a minzah (a leisure pavilion) has been designed by Mr. Antonio Almagro Gorbea, an Architect of the School of Arabic Studies of Granada (CSIC), in collaboration with Mr. Faisal Cherradi, a Moroccan expert in heritage, and Mr- Esteban Hernández Bermejo, an Agronomist of the University of Cordoba and the University of Castilla La Mancha.
