Next Saturday, December 16th, 2017, the Botanical Garden of Rabat (JEB), member of the Med-O-Med network, is celebrating an open-doors day in commemoration of World Soil Day and the International Volunteer Day.
Through this workshop, which will begin at 13.00, JEB wants to show its scenic beauty, as an acclimatization garden created at the beginning of the 20th century by Jean Nicolas Forestier, as well as its plant diversity and the scientific work developed by the INRA (Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique), on which the garden depends.
This 17 hectares space, in the vert heart of Morocco’s capital, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2012.
JEB is the first agronomic research station in Morocco, as well as an space for the acclimatization of the new species of agroeconomic, ornamental and scientific interest introduced in the country. This Botanical Garden contains more than 200 species of woody, ornamental and fruit trees coming from all around the world, thus showing the evolution and diversity of the vegetable kingdom. After being subject to important rehabilitation works, it was inaugurated by Morocco’s King Mohamed VI in June 2013.
Public workshops
On this occasion, this botanical garden will offer a public program comprising agriculture, gardening, apiculture, fertilization and fertigation workshops, as well as origamis, animated by the INRA’s volunteering experts. For its part, FUNCI will show the Andalusi educational garden, resulting from its collaboration with JEB, as well as the small museum dedicated to water in al-Andalus installed at the Morrish House. There will also be a conference on the garden’s history and a poetry reading. Its goal is to involve Rabat’s civil society in the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage and to make the garden more known to the city’s population.

The open doors day is organized by INRA and the Wilaya of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, in collaboration with the National School of Architecture, the Mohammadia League of Scholars, and the associations Dialogue of melodies and Rabat Salé Memory.
