Rosa x alba L.

The hybrid origin of this rose seems to have involved the species Rosa gallica L. and R. corymbifera Borkh., both European species (Bessi and Clauser, 2018). It is a deciduous, thorny, upright-growing shrub that can reach up to 2.5 m in height. The stems are densely populated with curved spines and stiff bristles. The dull, leathery leaves are pinnate, with five (rarely seven) oval or rounded leaflets about five centimetres long, with a narrow margin, without glandular hairs. The flowers are white, single (5 to 10 petals) or double and are grouped in corymbs; from faintly scented to intensely fragrant. The flowers appear in early summer (no repeat floration). The fruit is a globose to oblong cinnabar, red when ripe. Specimens have been found in five localities in the province of Albacete, including Casas de Oriñuela (San Pedro).
