Summary Centres of plant diversity research

The results are given by country. For each country there is an initial introduction summarising its physiographic characteristics, the interest of its phytogenetic resources and the state of in-situ and ex-situ conservation. This is followed by a catalogue of facilities working on plant diversity in the country, with details on each of them.

Information has been compiled on 117 “Centres of Plant Diversity” as follows:

  • Albania 6
  • Algeria 5
  • Azerbaijan 11
  • Bahrain 1
  • Egypt 13
  • Iran 10
  • Iraq 2
  • Jordan 1
  • Kuwait 2
  • Lebanon 7
  • Libya 1
  • Morocco 7
  • Oman 13
  • Palestine 6
  • Qatar 2
  • Saudi Arabia 4
  • Syria 2
  • Tunisia 8
  • Turkey 9
  • United Arab Emirates 5

Finally, the annexes give additional information on some (but not all) of the institutions included in the tables. This is information that, for various reasons, cannot be given in the tables but that is considered of interest, is given as annexes of the full document.
