SPECIAL COLLECTIONS Rhanterium epapposum, Brassica tournefortii, Haloxylon salicornicum, Nitraria retusa, Pennisetum divisum, Calligonum polygonoides, Zygophyllum qatarense, Citrullus colocynthis, Gynandriris sisyrinchium
TAXA 55 taxa. 199 accessions of about 66 species. Of these species about 39 are perennials, only one is biennial and 26 are annuals
PROGRAMMES • Research programs (Biotecnology): The Biotechnology Program designs and develops innovative methods and products to enhance environmental and agricultural systems and also provides support and insight to local industries. The program’s researchers blends modern molecular biology, genomics and genetic engineering techniques with biotechnological processes and product development toolsto produce a multidisciplinary approach for enhancing the quality of the environment and creating a sustainable and viable national agriculture system.

• Conservation and Reintroduction Programs

FEATURES AND FACILITIES • Plant preparation laboratory for seed cleaning, drying and short term storage at 20-24oC and 40-50% RH

• A seed analysis laboratory for conducting seed quality tests such as germination, purity, viability, seed-health and moisture content

• A small cold storage room in the seed analysis laboratory for medium-term conservation at 4oC and 25-35%RH to store active collections

• A freezer for long-term conservation at –18oC in the seed analysis laboratory to store base collections

• Research facilities: laboratories, offices, etc…
